CSA Theatre compANY to Present Hadestown: Teen Edition
MARION, IN — October 7, 2026 — Marion Community School of the Arts (CSA) Theatre compANY will bring the hauntingly beautiful world of Hadestown: Teen Edition to the stage this season, inviting audiences to journey into a world where mythology, music, and storytelling collide.
Based on Anaïs Mitchell’s acclaimed Tony Award-winning musical, Hadestown: Teen Edition reimagines the ancient Greek myths of Orpheus and Eurydice and Hades and Persephone through a folk-jazz score and a story that feels both timeless and remarkably relevant.
The production follows Orpheus, a young musician who believes that music has the power to change the world, and Eurydice, a young woman struggling to survive in a world that has grown increasingly cold and unforgiving. When Eurydice is drawn into the underworld of Hadestown, Orpheus sets out on a dangerous journey to bring her home. Along the way, their story becomes intertwined with that of Hades and Persephone, whose own love story has been tested by time, power, and the changing seasons.
“Hadestown is ultimately a story about what it means to keep choosing hope,” said Shelly Inskeep, Executive Artistic Director of CSA. “It asks us what we are willing to believe in when we already know the ending may not be what we want. That is such a powerful idea for young artists to explore, particularly at a time in their lives when they are beginning to make choices about who they are and what they believe.”
For the CSA Theatre compANY, Hadestown also represents an opportunity for students to take on a particularly ambitious piece of musical theatre. The production combines complex storytelling with a distinctive musical style, ensemble-driven staging, movement, choreography, and demanding character work.
The CSA Theatre compANY is a pre-professional theatre training program for students ages 8–18. Through intensive training and production experiences, students develop their skills as performers and theatre artists while learning the importance of collaboration, discipline, creativity, and professional practice.
“Hadestown reminds us why we tell stories in the first place,” Inskeep said. “We know these myths. We know how they end. And yet, generation after generation, we tell them again. There is something incredibly powerful about that choice. We return to the same stories because they give us a way to see ourselves, our world, and the people around us a little differently. For our students, getting to tell this story again—and finding their own meaning within it—is part of what makes theatre so powerful.”
One of the production’s most distinctive elements will be a mechanical turntable, an iconic feature of the Broadway production of Hadestown. CSA Theatre compANY will bring this large-scale piece of theatrical technology to the F. Ritchie Walton Performing Arts Center, marking the first time a mechanical turntable of this kind has been used in the venue.
The turntable will become an integral part of the storytelling, allowing the world of Hadestown to shift and transform before the audience’s eyes while creating a dynamic visual language for the journey between the world above and the underworld below. For the students of CSA Theatre compANY, working with this technology also provides a rare opportunity to experience the kind of sophisticated theatrical machinery found in professional productions.
At its heart, Hadestown is a story about stories themselves. The characters know the myths. They know how the stories are supposed to end. And yet, they choose to tell them again.
Because, as the show reminds us, perhaps the act of telling a story—and believing in it—matters just as much as whether we already know the ending.
Hadestown: Teen Edition will be presented November 6-7 at 7pm and November 8 at 2pm at the F. Ritchie Walton Performing Arts Center at Marion High School.
