The Public is Invited to Dual Exhibitions Hosted by KAC and Sponsored by Marion Arts Commission
Marion, IN - Kennedy Art Center is pleased to announce the opening of two concurrent art exhibitions on Saturday, November 7th from 1:00 - 3:00 pm.
Our first floor gallery exhibition, Made of Valor, was made possible with support from the art therapist at our local VA, who connected us with veterans willing to share their artwork in a show dedicated to allowing our vets to be seen and honored as we approach Veteran’s Day this year. Veteran’s experiences are complex and multifaceted as they re-integrate into civilian life, embodying a variety of roles. They are often left to explore how their own histories, traumas, and life experiences merge with their time as a soldier. Art can be a powerful tool that turns complicated human experiences into a tangible product. Each piece is a retelling: a chance to understand the veteran experience and admire the passion of a group of people exploring their lives beyond the uniform.
Our second exhibition, The Language of Christopher Bame, shows the works of local artist Christopher Bame. Born premature and deaf, Bame was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and developmental delays as a young child, and he spent the majority of his childhood in an institutional setting. Having no formal education, he expressed artistic interest from a young age and used art as a way to communicate with his peers, convey his needs, and tell stories about his day. His narrative paintings and drawings are a form of storytelling, often autobiographical, and at once whimsical, vulnerable, and introspective. Further exhibition information can be found on our website, kennedyartcenter.co/exhibitions.
