General Motors Marion Metal Center to Host 60th Anniversary Open House
MARION, Indiana (May 31, 2016) - On Friday, June 10, 2016, General Motors’ Marion Metal Center will celebrate its 60th anniversary with a public open house and employee car show. Open House tours begin at 10 A.M.; last tour of the day begins at 7P.M.; doors close at 8 P.M. The self-paced walking tour follows a route that is approximately one mile long. The minimum age to tour the facility is 5. Legs must be covered (no shorts or short skirts), feet must be completely enclosed (no open toes or heels), and shoes must have flat soles; individuals who do not meet these requirements will not be allowed to tour the facility. Purses and bags are not allowed in the plant; lockers will be available to store them during the tour.
Marion Metal Center opened in 1956 as GM Fisher Body. Over the years, it has employed thousands of men and women as part of GM’s vehicle manufacturing system. Currently, the facility provides stamped parts and assemblies for many GM vehicles, including the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size pickup trucks. More than 1,100 individuals work at the plant.
Admission to the Open House is free. Food will be available for purchase at vendors. In addition to the Open House tour, local dealers will have vehicles on display, select organizations and businesses will be present, and parking for the event will take place in the GM parking lot at 2400 West Second Street in Marion, Indiana, and will feature family-friendly activities.
According to Tom Gallagher, plant manager for Marion Metal Center, the event has two main goals. First, it’s a wonderful way to showcase GM’s new products and some of the company’s old favorites. Second, it’s a way to bring the community together at one of the county’s largest employers.
Plus the entire family will enjoy these Free Attractions:
