Marion Students Selected for All State Ensemble

Marion students selected for prestigious all-state ensemble

Eight Marion Community Schools singers have been selected to perform in prestigious all-state honor ensembles at the Indiana Music Educators Association’s upcoming annual conference.

Antonio Cruz, Myla Dunston, Cecilia Hancock, and Micah Wayman, all seventh-graders at McCulloch Junior High, and Linlee Greenwood, Chrishon Lenoir, and Justice Sweat, all eighth-graders at MJH, were selected to participate in the IMEA All State Middle School Honor Choir. Addison Phillips, fifth-grader at Justice Intermediate School, was selected to participate in the IMEA All State Elementary School Honor Choir.

These honor ensembles are a great opportunity and give students a chance to learn and grow as musicians. To be selected for this honor, students are nominated by their choir director and then submit audition materials; all nominations are then evaluated based on several criteria to select members of these talented groups from across the state. Selected musicians have been notified and were tasked with practicing the musical selections in preparation for the upcoming performances.

On Thursday, Jan. 16, honor ensemble members from around the state will gather to rehearse together for the first time, with a guest clinician. Then, on Jan. 17, they will perform together in Fort Wayne during the IMEA’s annual conference.

The MJH and JIS students join MHS junior Zoey Wayman, whose selection to the Indiana Choral Directors Association’s All-State Honor Choir was announced earlier. That choir will also perform at IMEA’s annual conference.

Marion’s outstanding representation during this music-filled weekend is a testament to the hard work and dedication our students display every day in the classroom, and to the excellence, skill, and professionalism that our music educators bring to their work all year round.

We are proud of all of these Marion Giants!
