Art Exhibition and Opening Reception for the Public at the Kennedy Art Center on January 17th

Marion, IN- Kennedy Art Center is pleased to announce an upcoming art
exhibition and opening reception for the public at the Kennedy Art Center on
January 17th from 1:00-3:00 pm.

In the artist’s own words: “This exhibition is dedicated to the community of Marion, Indiana,
showcasing a body of work created in 2025. It marks the third ‘Ma.’ exhibition for the city,
following a project that began in 2022. I sought community input for nominations, aiming to
create artwork with intention and purpose. Having developed a deep appreciation for the subject
I know best—African American women—I chose to center this collection on women of color
within my community, as selected by community members.

The title of the exhibition is deeply rooted in cultural significance. This two-letter term is often
spoken with great respect and admiration, transcending age and resonating clearly within the
community. [...] From the insights gained during the second show, I recognized the importance
of continuing this work.

For ‘Ma. 3,’ my intention is to explore the connection between faces and places. We often hear
the phrase, ‘I know her from somewhere,’ and I hope this body of work will establish a bridge
between individual identities and their corresponding spaces. It is my aspiration that the next
time you encounter these remarkable individuals, you will be familiar with a part of their story
and remember the place where you were most profoundly impacted.”
