Department of Labor Launches Project Firewall |
The U.S. Department of Labor recently launched Project Firewall, an H-1B initiative that will protect America’s workers through enforcement and compliance assistance.
Project Firewall is an important part of the administration’s agenda to protect American workers. The department, including the Wage and Hour Division, will use all available tools to hold employers accountable when they abuse the H-1B visa process to hire foreign workers instead of qualified U.S. workers.
Along with the Wage and Hour Division, the department’s office of Immigration Policy and Employment and Training Administration will collaborate in this H-1B initiative. Participants from other federal agencies include the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Under this initiative, the Secretary intends to certify certain H-1B investigations when applicable to safeguard the rights, wages, and job opportunities of highly skilled American workers. Secretary- certified investigations, as well as other H-1B related investigations, are important tools the department can use in Project Firewall to hold employers accountable and protect the rights of American workers.
