Indiana Wesleyan University Awarded Collegiate Purple Star of Indiana

Indianapolis (July 18) – Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) has been awarded the inaugural Collegiate Purple Star of Indiana (CPSI) by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA). The CPSI recognizes eligible postsecondary institutions that have successfully demonstrated a supportive environment for U.S. military-affiliated students from application to graduation.

“Indiana Wesleyan University has always had a strong commitment to military students,” said President Jon Kulaga. “From President McConn fighting to ensure students returning from World War II wouldn’t need to pay for the remainder of their education, to modern day efforts to serve our military-affiliated students, IWU remains committed to serving those who have served our country.”

Indiana Commissioner for Higher Education Chris Lowery added, “The Commission is proud to honor these institutions with the state’s first-ever Collegiate Purple Star Award. These institutions set the benchmark for educating military-affiliated students. This honor celebrates colleges that have intentionally cultivated a military-supportive environment.”

IWU has been named a Tier Two recipient, having achieved an 80% achievement level. This designation is based on 37 standards across eight categories: core requirements, marketing and communication strategies, admissions and enrollment, financial support, institutional support systems, student support services, student engagement, and career and community engagement opportunities.

The CPSI program was established by Senate Enrolled Act 384-2023. Designations are valid for three years and signify an institution’s readiness to support the unique needs of military-connected students.
