First UMC Free Family & Kids Expo Scheduled for August 1st
MARION, IN – The First United Methodist Church of Marion will be sponsoring a Free Family & Lids Expo on Saturday, August 1st, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
This Expo is designed help families in the community develop relationships with resources and other families, all while having great fun.
First UMC pastor, Laura Marine, expressed her gratefulness to both the neighborhood and those that will be involved in the Expo, “We’re so lucky to have a congregation willing to help provide and help families connect, whether it’s building relationships with local resources or between the families themselves.”
Even though some of the events will be outdoors in the parking lot on S Adams and S Washington between 7th and 8th Streets, there will also be activities inside the Annex building next to the parking lot, which will provide opportunities for any weather-related needs.
“We’re going to have plenty of free fun activities, like face-painting and games, and ‘Johnny Law’ from the Police Department” Marine said, “but also we have some great family food planned … hot dogs, sno-cones and popcorn!”
Marine emphasized the opportunity to get better acquainted with how families can get access to groups that provide services for kids and parents.
“We’re so happy that Mayor Morrell will be joining us,” she said. “Plus, we’ll have booths and educational information designed to give our community families access to critical services of which they may not even be aware.”
She indicated that those already committed are Marion Health (including a baby-changing station), Radiant Health, Connections of Grant County, Family Resource Center, Project Leadership, Scholar House, Community School of the Arts, Bridges to Health, Marion Community Schools and Meals on Wheels. Additionally, Thriving Grant County’s GROW is bringing their mobile unit, which is a must-see.
“It’s really been quite overwhelming to see the support of our community show for our families,” she added.
